MACtac Introduces Eco-Aware Product Line

December 19, 2008
STOW, Ohio—The trend toward ‘going green’ has affected everything from large corporations to personal households as entire countries, governments and industries continue to adjust their practices in an effort to decrease their environmental impact. This change has not gone unnoticed in the labels and labeling industry where manufacturers are faced with not only meeting their own sustainability goals, but providing customers and end users with products that will help them achieve their green initiatives as well.

To meet these growing needs, MACtac® Printing Products is introducing its new eco-aware product line, Bloom™, which features eight facestocks and two EarthFirst® films made with Ingeo™. At the core of the new Bloom line, MACtac’s ENVIROPATH™ products represent the beginning of an expanding line of environmentally friendly products from MACtac.

“We have been diligent in the development of Bloom to ensure the delivery of products with excellent printability and converting speeds that also have the least possible impact on the environment,” said Allison Hazel, marketing manager, MACtac Printing Products. “We look forward to growing this line to help our customers continuously achieve their goals for green packaging and labeling.”

MACtac’s Bloom product line includes products with facestocks that range from 30 percent to 100 percent post-consumer waste (PCW) and are available in a variety of finishes, including uncoated white, blue, cherry red, green, orange, pale yellow and semi-gloss.

Additionally, ENVIROPATH products include EarthFirst polylactic acid (PLA) films, available in clear and white. EarthFirst PLA films are industrial compostable and are made from renewable plant resources. These films feature excellent scratch resistance, high natural dyne levels, and high transparency to ultraviolet light—making them ideal as a replacement for polypropylene or polyester, which are used in many label film applications.

“We’ve had an overwhelming number of requests from customers for this product line, and we expect Bloom will be very popular among producers of organic products, such as salsa, tea, aromatherapy products and more,” Hazel said. “The applications are endless and we encourage customers to call with their requirements so we can continue to develop new products as we expand the line. Most Bloom products are customizable, so different liners and adhesives can be used depending on the final application and the customer’s needs.”
