Omet Holds Open House with Converflex

April 14, 2009
Despite the current economic climate, Omet, the Italian manufacturer of narrow web presses and tissue converting machines, reported high levels of interest in new technology at its recent open house which ran concurrently with the Converflex expo in Milan.

Speaking for Omet, Sales Director Marco Calcagni commented, “We were encouraged by the number and quality of visitors to our stand at Converflex, and delighted that so many converters attended our open house in Lecco.”

Omet used the major international expo to showcase the latest version of its VaryFlex-F1 multi purpose flexo line. With a 520 mm web width and 8 UV flexo printing units, the VaryFlex ran live demonstrations of cold foiling on transparent PVC. Fitted with a flying splice for non stop running, the VaryFlex also had Omet’s new flying imprint device that allows copy or graphic changes to be made at full press speed.

Attracted by the versatility of the VaryFlex, more than 50 converters accepted Omet’s invitation for a closer look at the company’s innovations at its Technology Center and headquarters in Lecco.

After transferring by private coach from Milan, visitors were invited to inspect Omet’s FTA Award winning X-Flex line. Fitted with 8 UV flexo units, cold foiling, rotary screen printing and diecutting, the X-Flex was producing self adhesive labels on transparent PET, and with minimum downtime, switched to printing on PP.

Three VaryFlex-F1 lines were also on working demonstration at Lecco. Omet gave an international premier to its new VaryFlex Offset line, working in combination with flexo. A 6-color 430 mm VaryFlex press, fitted with 4 UV offset and 2 UV flexo units printed a self-adhesive job with inline rotary diecutting. A 7-color 670 mm VaryFlex line ran solvent laminating of transparent PET and BOPP using hot air drying, while a 530 mm VaryFlex was shown applying holograms offline on preprinted paper reels.

The open house gave converters a unique opportunity to discuss the latest innovative techniques with Omet design and production personnel on a one-to-one basis, and then witness the demonstrations first hand. Afterwards, at a gala dinner hosted by Omet, there was further opportunity to explore new market opportunities.

Concluding, Calcagni said, “What became obvious was that converters are still keen to invest in technology that offers real innovation and provides them with new routes to efficiency and cost effectiveness. We were delighted that so many companies showed real interest in Omet technology even in the current global downturn.”
