Gallus Sells Second PRATI Slitter/Rewinder to Spectra Graphics, Inc.
In Fall 2016, Spectra Graphics, a label printer located in Lenexa Kan., purchased a 13˝ PRATI Saturn Classic servo-driven slitter rewinder from Gallus, Inc. which was installed in January 2017 to replace obsolete equipment. It was fitted with an optional hydraulic roll lift and stroboscope. A mere six months later, in June 2017, the company purchased a second unit. According to Operations Manager Jim Freeman, “We priced several different manufacturers for the first unit and we choose the PRATI unit over the others due to several factors.”
Freeman was clear in pointing out the reasons behind their selecting the second PRATI, after observing the equipment’s performance during the first six months of the year.
He noted that more added-value features compared to rival manufacturers made PRATI the obvious choice at a very competitive price. He also appreciated the compact, ergonomic design, making it easy to fit the Saturn into the workshop, where floor space is limited and where competitive units required more space to do the same job.
He achieved superior cutting quality of paper and filmic substrates with PRATI’s self-sharpening knives and whereas competitor equipment required a switch-out from male/female knives to razor knives, PRATI knives work on both. Processing speeds that Spectra Graphics was accustomed to have doubled with the Saturn, now reaching 984 fpm with servo motors. The equipment and user interface are so easy to use that it took no more than two days to fully train operators, which significantly optimizes human resources. He also noted that PRATI’s larger diameter traction drum with high grip coating and pneumatic nip roller does a better job with more rigid construction and keeps them from pre-dispensing on the equipment.
“Overall,” said Freeman, “we have been very pleased with the unit and the operators prefer it over our other units. The second PRATI unit we recently ordered will replace another piece of equipment and we can’t wait for its arrival.”
