HS Crocker to Increase Productivity with Stork Prints’ Laser Engraver
March 2007
CHARLOTTE, N.C.— HS Crocker Co. Inc, the Huntley, Illinois (USA)-based supplier of self-adhesive labels, flexible packaging and cartons, has signed a deal to install Stork Prints’ multi-process Helios 6010 engraver, for highly productive imaging of letterpress plates at Crocker’s pharmaceutical label converting operation in Pennsylvania.
Gene Proffit, managing director at Stork Prints America, comments, “The direct laser engraving systems will completely transform the pre-production workflow, with printing forms being engraved on an on-demand basis. The greater flexibility, reduced running costs, and improved printing quality offered by these systems will be a major strategic benefit to HS Crocker, strengthening their competitiveness in North America’s high-end label and packaging markets.”
Stork’s laser engraving process images plates and sleeves to be imaged in two steps—the engraving itself followed by rinsing. Narrow-web plates can be ready in under 20 minutes. Exposure, chemical washing and drying are avoided, manual input is minimized and with no need for film or chemicals, consumable costs are negligible.
With greater dot shaping possibilities offered over other processes, resolutions of 150 lpi (60 lpc) and rasters of 2530 dpi are possible. Clear, fine linework and text, high-impact full color areas and half tone effects are easily achieved as a result. When a repeat is necessary, the plate is imaged identically to the last dot.
Ed James, laser product manager at Stork Prints America, says, “Stork Prints America is now receiving increased interest from many printers and reproduction houses across the USA and Canada. Customers are recognising that we offer the powerful combination of a revolutionary product, combined with the structure in place to provide total after-sales support in the region.”
