New Sponsors Join the CMM Flexible Packaging Technology Center

March 2007
NASHUA, N.H.—Comexi, Hudson Sharp, and Air Trim have joined Bobst/Schiavi and Profama as the major sponsors of the new Flexible Packaging Technology Center at CMM International 2007, June 4-7, in Rosemont, Ill.

Designed to showcase the latest advancements in flexible packaging printing and converting, the new Technology Center will feature actual jobs being produced several times a day during the four days of the show. Preliminary plans call for plastic bags to be produced using the following equipment:

• A new Bobst/Schiavi 10-color C.I. EF 50 press
• Comexi’s 52˝ Nexus Solventless Laminator with Sleeve Option
• Profama’s new Pratica 1200 slitter/rewinder
• Hudson Sharp’s 275W-15 Servo Wicketer Zipper Sealer
• An Air Trim advanced pneumatic trim system

According to Jim Enos, CMM show director, additional machinery and materials sponsors will be announced soon. “The Flexible Packaging Technology Center will provide converters from around the world with a unique opportunity to see all the latest equipment in action while discussing various steps of the process with technical representatives from the leading suppliers,” he said. “Each of the sponsors will also have their own individual booths on the show floor so attendees can discuss their specific needs with several suppliers in the Tech Center and then have more private conversations in the individual booths.”

“This was an easy decision for us,” said Peter Medlicott, president and COO of Comexi North America. “We have always had excellent traffic at CMM and our experience with the 2005 show went well beyond our expectations. We sold two very large lines at that show and had many inquiries from new and existing contacts. We welcome the opportunity to demonstrate our equipment in this innovative way.”

These sentiments were echoed by the other sponsors and long-time CMM exhibitors who see this as an opportunity to showcase their equipment working together with other equipment in a more real-life environment. “Our bag making machines are always used in conjunction with other equipment at the customers’ facilities so why not show it in an actual environment at a trade show,” said Jeanette Long, marketing director for Hudson Sharp.

Enos said several of the CMM Conference sessions will be designed to complement the technology being shown on the show floor. The idea is to provide classroom sessions on the theory of the technology and then see it in action at the Tech Center.

In addition to the Flexible Technology Center, CMM International 2007 will feature a new “Narrow- to Mid-Web Technology Center” that will demonstrate running equipment producing jobs that use both narrow- and mid-web technologies. Produced in cooperation with the DiTrollio Flexographic Technology Institute, converters also will be able to gain press operator certification as part of the Conference Program.
