PPC Distributes Safety Boxscore Awards

PPC Chairman Stephen Scherger honors the Safety Boxscore award winners during dinner at the PPC Spring Meeting in Nashville, TN.

SPRINGFIELD, MA—April 25, 2013—One of the highlights at the Paperboard Packaging Council (PPC) Spring Outlook and Strategies Conference, held April 3-5 in Nashville, TN, was the presentation of the Safety Boxscore awards, which are based on the cumulative number of hours a PPC member company worked in 2012 without an OSHA-recordable injury.

Last year, 27 companies representing 69 facilities qualified for awards for 125,000, 250,000, 500,000, 750,000 and 1 million hours worked with no recordable injuries. Twelve-month awards were also presented for working an entire calendar year without injury.

The top prize, the Chairman’s Safety Award—given for finishing the year with the most hours worked without an OSHA recordable injury—was presented to Amcor Tobacco Packaging for working 1,134,798 hours to date without injury.

“Creating a workplace free from injuries is an imperative for our members,” said Stephen Scherger, PPC chairman and senior vice president of Graphic Packaging International. “Ensuring that employees go home in the same or better shape than when they arrived is a goal that can be achieved.”

The PPC member companies that qualified for awards include:

“The companies that received safety awards are outstanding examples of what can be achieved when leaders and team members work together to create a safety focused culture, certainly a great message from the paperboard packaging industry,” remarked Scherger.
