TLMI Celebrates Label Industry Leaders
The Annual Meeting of the Tag and Label Manufacturers Institute (TLMI) concluded on Tuesday, Oct. 18, with an awards banquet that feted the Converter of the Year, Supplier of the Year, sustainability leaders and the winners of the 2016 TLMI Label Awards.
It was an eventful evening for Dan Muenzer of Constantia Flexibles, who was honored as the outgoing chairman of the TLMI Board of Directors. Muenzer will now take on the position of immediate past chairman and Craig Moreland, president of Coast Label Company, officially became TLMI’s new chairman.
Muenzer also received one of TLMI’s most prestigious honors — the Converter of the Year award. Several factors were considered in honoring Muenzer with the award, including his committee work – particularly his contributions to sustainability — and his impressive tenure on the Board of Directors and as chairman.
Under Muenzer’s leadership, TLMI successfully went through several transitions, including the selection of a new president, the hiring of a new staff, relocating the office from Gloucester, Mass., to Alexandria, Va., and developing a new strategic plan.
The Supplier of the Year award was presented to Karen Moreland of RotoMetrics, who has been a TLMI committee member and recently co-chaired the 2015 TLMI Technical Conference.
As TLMI continues to emphasize sustainability throughout the label industry, the association has presented annual Environmental Leadership Awards to one converter member company and one supplier member that have made positive contributions to the industry’s environmental impact.
Constantia Flexibles, a leading label and flexible packaging converter, and FLEXcon, a manufacturer of pressure-sensitive films and adhesives, were this year’s recipients.
The annual label awards honored the best submissions across six categories, as determined by a panel of judges. Multi-Color Corporation earned the Best of Show distinction for its Girl and Dragon malbec wine label. The six Best of Class winners were:
- Best of Class Digital: Multi-Color Corporation, Sonoma Division – Precision
- Best of Class Other: Inovar Packaging – Aloe H2O
- Best of Class Offset Wine & Spirits: Multi-Color Corporation North American Wine and Spirits – Hertelendy
- Best of Class Flexo Wine & Spirits: Multi-Color Corporation North American Wine and Spirits – Girl & Dragon Malbec
- Best of Class Flexo & Letterpress: Yerecic Label – Pub Style Burgers
- Best of Class Multi-Process: McDowell Label — Get Real
TLMI’s next event is its Converter Meeting, which will be held March 5-8, 2017 at the Loews Don CeSar Hotel in St. Pete Beach, Fla. The 2017 Annual Meeting will be held from October 8-11, 2017 at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Gainey Ranch Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, Ariz.
