Excellence Awards Highlight: Control Group Amazes with Fresnel Lens
When looking at the package, the image of the metallic ball appears to jump out from the substrate as a three-dimensional representation of the actual “Flexi Ball” used in the Gillette Venus razor. In actuality however, the Flexi Ball image is flat, an optical illusion created by the use of a Fresnel lens.
The combination of impeccable flexographic printing, rotary screen, foils, lamination, glitter, varnish, and of course the Fresnel lens, earned Control Group of Norwood, N.J., first place in the Technical Achievement Specialty Category in the 2018 packagePRINTING Excellence Awards.
Making the job even more impressive, is that the printing, special effects and diecutting were done in-line, in one pass. The job was produced using a Nilpeter FG press and included implementation of a custom mix of glitter onto the substrate while maintaining the integrity of the design.
